Balancing Purpose With Everyday Life
I’m pretty sure that whoever said life is a balancing act was preacher, because that is a word right there! Most of the time, I feel like I’m gracefully trying to stick the balance beam routine of life. I’m sure that you can relate to my struggle. As purpose driven women, we have so much that we’re doing on a day to day basis. For some of us there is work and/or school, not to mention church events and responsibilities, friendships & relationships to maintain, spouses and boyfriends to please, and if you’re a mom, hats off to you! With so many things to do and people to see, it can be hard to dedicate time to your God-given goals and purpose.
Although you should give yourself grace in this area, it’s important to not let “life” be an excuse as to why you can’t pursue your God-given purpose and goals. God has enlisted you in His mission of winning souls for His Kingdom and your diligence, discipline, and obedience to His call is crucial to seeing His purposes fulfilled in your life. While I definitely wouldn’t call myself a balance maven, I’ve been learning a lot concerning what it means to balance my life with my purpose. If you’ve been finding it difficult to juggle it all, here’s how you can balance your purpose with everyday life.

Remind Yourself of Your Why.
Your why is your reasoning behind the things you are pursuing. It’s going to keep you motivated and encouraged on the days when you feel exhausted and want to give up. It’s what helps you to discern whether what you’re doing is purposeful, and it helps you to determine your priorities. Your why isn’t about you. It’s about the people you serve and the legacy you want to leave. That is what will continue to motivate and remind you to make time for your purpose.
Simplify and Systematize.
Oftentimes, we find ourselves busy and stretched too thin because we are overcomplicating things and we don’t have the proper systems in place. Ask yourself, “What areas of my life can I cultivate right now? What areas of my life and/or business can I simplify?” Once you have pared down your commitments and responsibilities, create a system for how you will go about doing your purposeful tasks. A system will help you to increase your productivity and pursue your purpose and goals on autopilot.
Optimize Your Schedule & Routine.
One of the keys to creating intentional balance is to set aside a time and routine to work on your God-given goals and responsibilities. Write down your set in stone schedule. Then go back and find a pocket of time where you know you can be the most purposeful and productive. From there, create a routine that will help you to optimize that pocket of time. I know for me, the best time for me to work on my purpose and goals is during the wee hours in the morning when I’m the least likely to be interrupted. Find what works best for you and commit yourself to doing purposeful work during that time.
Don’t be afraid to put boundaries in place.
Carrying your purpose is much like carrying a baby. When you’re pregnant, you can’t eat and drink the same thing you use to. You can’t even go to the same places or engage in the activities that you would normally engage in. Because you know that you’re growing and protecting a life, you put boundaries in place that are in the best interest of yourself and your child. The same reasoning should apply when you’re pregnant with purpose. Don’t be afraid to put boundaries in place that will protect it. You can’t be all things to all people and although you’re capable of doing many things, you can’t do all things well. Boundaries are the best way to create peace, purpose, and balance in your life.
Steward what you’ve been given well.
No matter how hard we try, we will never create total balance. That type of balance is a basically a myth. Naturally when you devote all your energy and focus to one area, another place is going to take a hit. This is where the Holy Spirit comes in to remind us to choose grace, not perfection. Don’t worry about balancing it all equally but stewarding each area of your life to the best of your ability.
These days, I’ve been really subscribing to the idea of grace, not perfection. I’m learning how to exchange the hustle for His grace. The grace to not be perfect. The grace to not have everything together. The grace to grow surely and steadily. His grace is what encourages me when I know I’m not achieving that “perfect” balance in my life. I know that finding that everyday balance can be rough, so I created a guide that will help you pursue purpose by creating purposeful priorities and cultivating what matters.
