Resilience is a skill that we will all have an opportunity to develop at some point in time. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), resilience is defined as “the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress.” Like lemons, adversity, death, loss, or disappointment will sourly flavor your life from time to time. It’s your resilience that will determine if you will remain sourly bitter or transform your life into sweet resolve. But resilience isn’t a passive transference of willpower or hope; it is forged by the developing of a bold, courageous, and steadfast spirit. And as a believer, you are already wired to overcome, because of the victorious, redeeming work of our Overcomer.

Jesus never promised that this life would be easy. He never promised that we wouldn’t face seasons of unknown, uncertainty, or even isolation but He did promise His peace and presence in the midst. Jesus encourages us in John 16:33 (NLT), “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Here Jesus is encouraging His disciples to remain steadfast and resilient until He returns and as His followers, we are to do the same. Unfortunately, steadfastness and resilience are seldomly developed during the good times but the times when our faith is flailing and life’s circumstances seem cruel or questionable. The better you are able to develop these skills, the more likely you will be able to readily recover and thrive in all seasons. That is why this month at Life Designer University we are sharing with you strategies for developing a steadfast and resilient spirit.
