Making the Most of Your Season

What season of life do you find yourself in? Are you in a dry season? A waiting season? A hustling season? A test and trials at almost every turn season? Or maybe even a harvesting and reaping season? The truth is that God has created us to be seasonal people. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “For everything there is a season,” and goes on in verse 11 to remind us that God makes everything beautiful in its time, emphasizing that we were created for seasons.

In a natural sense, we know that seasons change along with the weather. We experience seasons of life as well. Maybe like spring, you find that you’re in a season of renewal. Or maybe you’re experiencing the joy and freedom that’s associated with summer. Maybe you’ve been planting all year long and like fall, it’s time to reap your harvest. Or maybe things appear to be dead and dormant like during the winter. These are all different seasons of life and it’s so important to know which one you’re in so you can make the most of where God has you. That is why in this post, I’m sharing with you five ways you can make the most of your season in life.

  1. Know your season. It’s so important that you know what season you’re in, so you know how you can best flourish while you’re there. Recognizing what season you’re in helps you avoid unnecessary disappointment and unrealistic expectations.

  2. Set goals that are in season. You wouldn’t plant seeds in the cold of winter expecting that they would grow. Why would you do the same with your goals? Instead of just setting any goals, set goals that fit the season of life you are in.

  3. Do what you can. Don’t try to accelerate your growth by overwatering your soil. Instead of doing all the things, focus on doing things that are in your power and are going to yield the most effective results.

  4. Celebrate the small stuff. Yeah, you may not be in full bloom yet, but don’t you notice the the tiny sprout? That’s growth! Instead of waiting until you’ve been perfected, start celebrating the small progress. Even the Lord loves to see the work begin. (Zechariah 4:10)

  5. Keep growing. At the end of the day, it’s not about your destination but the journey — the lessons you learn and who you become along the way. That means you still have many seasons to grow through. But guess what? There is beauty and purpose in every one. Instead of fighting the process, lean into it as you keep growing.

We all experience different seasons of life — it’s inevitable. You can choose to kick and fight your way through them or you can choose to make the most of them so you can flourish where God has you.
