It's All In Your Words: The Unleveraged Power of Words

It's All In Your Words: The Unleveraged Power of Words| Fearfully Fashioned — Your words have so much power to illuminate life and light or to magnify death and darkness. Speak life into your God-given goals & purpose by learning how to leverage you…

Fat. Ugly. Weird. Misunderstood. Understood. Undesirable. These are the words that defined my self-talk. These words weren’t in my original vocabulary. They were the words given to me by the devil and his lies. You see, he would work through situations I couldn’t control to prey on my youth and innocence to form and shape my identity, and because of my vulnerability and susceptibility, I believed every word he said and used those words to define me.

Little did I know that those words had so much power. Everything that I said poorly about myself manifested over the course of time. Because I used the word “fat” to shape my thoughts, I believed I was fat and that caused me to eat unhealthy foods and in result, I gained weight. Because I used the word “undesirable” in my thought patterns, I subconsciously repelled people away because I was manifesting their distance into my life. Why did my words have so much power and weight on my outcomes? Because words shape thoughts and thoughts manifest reality.

Words have so much power because they are the springboard of where life and death stem from. The Word tells us that our tongue can bring life or death, and we will reap the consequences of what we speak (Proverbs 18:21).

In Genesis 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24, God shows us the power of words. He used His words to form reality. Now although we may not be able to physically speak something into existence, we still have the ability to speak life or death over ourselves, others, and our situations.

Poor self-talk produces so much death and negativity into our lives. We speak negatively and wonder why our lives seem to be so dark and dim. It’s because we are meditating on harmful words, lies, and negativity. Many people fail to realize that meditation is simply the repetition of words and thoughts, so therefore you manifest what you speak and meditate on.

When I use the word “inadequate” to define my thought processes, I automatically set myself up to not succeed. Naturally, I’ll start feeling insecure and lethargic, which results in me not doing what I know I’m called to do. Because our words directly influence our actions and results, we must use our words for influence and intention, not destruction.

How are you using your words? Are you using them to confirm and further the enemy’s lies? Or are you using them to confirm your identity in Christ and speak life over the purpose and plan that He has for you?

The enemy may not know exactly what God has for you, but he does know that you have the power to make powerful moves for the Kingdom. Therefore, He’s going to try to fill you with any negative self-talk he can to keep you insecure and inactive. It’s important that you learn how to cast down those negative thoughts and build yourself up with life giving words, and here’s how you can do that.

Replace the lies with the truth.

A lot of us are walking around listening to the enemy’s lies because we don’t know God’s Word. His Word is truth and life (John 14:6). When you know what God says about your situation, you will have the confidence and ammunition to fight back.

Build yourself up with affirmations.

Affirmations consist of “I am” statements that are fashioned by God’s Word and/or positive, affirming self beliefs. Here are some examples:

“I am called according to His purpose.”

“ I am qualified to do the thing He’s called me to do.”

“ I am beautiful because He calls me fearfully and wonderfully made.”

“ I am deserving of attention and love.”

The purpose of affirmations is to confirm and highlight what’s true and right, not what’s false and wrong.

Create a scripture guide.

Scripture guides are great when affirmations aren’t enough. Some of my favorites are:

"O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them." - Psalm 40:5
"O Lord, what great works you do! And how deep are your thoughts." - Psalm 92:5
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I low that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!" - Psalm 139: 14-17
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts." - Isaiah 55:9
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" -Jeremiah 29:11

Write these scriptures down in your phone or on notecards so you can constantly be reminded of His words and thoughts toward you.
